I tell Neil Young that I saw an album "On The Beach" on the cheap, a used one, but I didnít buy it because the case was broken. He answers I could easily change the case by a new one. I think he has always very good ideas! This is why few people can live without his company. I just see this album on the shelves of Neil. I kneel before them to consult it. Meanwhile, Neil armed himself such a hunter shooting dust on the ground. Opening the case, I find out that: the album is an LP folded in four portions as a pancake - more practical for the storage space but that doesnít suit my business because I havenít any pancake griddle of olden times. Now thereís me in the narrow angle of the sweeper. And Iím coming out like a dust in the wind.

This evening, thereís me playing with a bass guitar on stage with Neil Young and his band (his wife, Pegi, is in the background vocals). At the interlude, we let ourselves devour by sumptuous reds armchairs. Neil and Pegi are talking together, without any embarrassment, close to me. I wear earpieces which, whereas I thought they were useful to me for the return of the sound on stage, translates for me into French and instantaneously what this couple says. Being dumbfounded, I take my inquisitive earpieces off Ö and go out discreetly. I merge into the audience enjoying at the idea of attending the next second part of the show of Neil.

I walk nonchalantly by an old country way. It is dry as the sky that gives here and there its azure reflection to some stony facets that make here and there some projections scoring or knocking my soles. A plant-like snake cuts in two this way, which is bordered of cultivated fields. A woman, driving a machine, enters in a field to close a started harvest. I take an ear that I crush into my hands. The light grains seem to be millet to me. I carry on walking. [Note: Do I have a well-defined itinerary or does my celestial string only guide me?]. Now I must make space for a black car coming towards me at full tilt. It slows down alongside me. It is swarming with people. Larry Cragg is in the front and Neil Young is in the back.  Neil turns his head towards me by leaving on his face a feeling that could be expressed as follows: "Who is this guy... and whatís he doing here this fucking bastard?Ľ Then the car disappears in a cloud.

I sit down on the steps of the platform where Neil Young comes, sits down and plays his solo set. Neil leaves the stage and comes back later. He moves towards the edge of the stage and kneels close to me and, speaking to the audience, says to us: "I know the strong feeling towards me rousing you, rusties. Iím very grateful to you. I am deeply touched by thatÖ Where do you come from?" I tell him "From Brittany". I hear a guy howling behind me "Italia". Neil admiringly: "Brittany? Oh! Great!" Then, Neil is going to sit down again and plays the second set.

We are in a small theatre and we await Neil Young whoís coming on stage now. It is just accompanied by a guitar. The audience is full of enthusiasm. Itís really a truism to say that since it canít be it differently. Songs follow songs. Although I've got a wild desire to stay, I must go away nevertheless. Iím going into the room, which is behind the stage. While Iím placing the tables, Iím cleaning them, I hear the show in a low sound. After "Powderfinger", Neil requires the wishes of the audience. I hear some yelling for "On The Beach" or "No More", and unfortunately also "Heart Of Gold". My sadness is the result of the fact that Neil finished all his Euroshows in 2003 by this excellent tune, and I donít want the show finishes now! At this very instant, Iíd like Neil plays "Cowgirl In The Sand". I know it isnít so original because Neil played solo this song in 1992, and probably in 1999. Just as Iíve got the feeling that the show is nearing its end, I finish my work at last. Thatís too bad, but, Iím pleased. The main thing is that the room is ready now and thatís it. The rusties can come here to continue to have a wild time. And we allow ourselves to think that perhaps Neil will condescend to pay us a visit. Oh! Just putting in a brief appearance, just the time for a faraway wave. I greet rusties...
(The end) [Note: Neil also played solo "Cowgirl" in 1999]

My pals of the ĎSpleen Garageí band play on a small and low stage. I am in the forefront. I appreciate them a lot. When their show is finished, they slip away and Neil Young and his Crazy Horse band take their places. The air splitting the atmosphere is "Love And Only Love". Then, from nowhere, cigarettes come rolling on the ground (on the boards of the stage). I light up one of them! Neil picks one of them and lights it with mine. Poncho wants to take one of them too, doesnít succeed that because he wishes to keep his guitar part in order to not alter the song by his non-attendance and in that way not to irritate "his boss". Why the cigarette seems here necessary (useful) to everyone? And to think I never smoked... (The end)

I walk in the countryside, along a restless river going out of a wood, in the company of Neil Young. Beyond the other edge, another river snakes towards us afterwards moving away. We arrive near a pond, which the first river fills. I ask Neil if itís used to irrigate his fields; with this question I must undoubtedly be in "Broken Arrow"!
- You see, on this small hill, the small deserted old houses... They are very funny. I donít know... I think Europeans built them and lived in them... Some Danes from what I think...
I saunter along ten small and narrow houses that have only one room and that have been built with stones, lime, wood. There are some materials spoiling with the thought we have about the old houses in the Far West... Some Danes?!... According to the remains of the signs that I see above the openings acting as doors, it is inevitably a matter about French. (The end)

Neil Young and Crazy Horse is on stage and starts the show with "Love To Burn" playing with a rap band. Itís Astrid Young who is around the sound system. I fear the worst because I think, in Rio in 2001, it was her being in control and the first song flunked by a bad sound system. Here, everything is all right. The rap band leaves the stage. And Neil sails "Down By The River". I must make a mistake about Rio, unless Astrid improved. (The end)

With a small group, I visit the farm of Broken Arrow...  We meet Neil Young who offers to taste his cider to us. After that, weíre going out of the barn and we speak with Neil about the transformation in time about the look about the trees emerging above a plant barrier on a horizon. (The end)

I attend a Neil Young show. I realise itís the tour from 1973, that the one the rusty Sofff likes more than anything else in the world. Behind the stage, a double door gives onto an open space where I put my movie camera on tripod. I half-open one of the doors, wedges it and I come back among the audience. Iíll shoot a few minutes later to give some images to Sofff. Neil is more wild than during the tour 1987. He runs on stage. The thing that is strange is that heís with Crazy Horse: Neil didnít play live with them in 1973. Neil is so wild that he ends up noticing my camcorder. Neil finishes the song and stops and all the band go backstage. Neil is overwhelmed. Elliot Roberts says to him: "You know, he (me) only wished to film a few minutes to put on his website." I say to Neil: "Je ne voulais pas tíoffusquer mais je vois que tu líes". Neil nod in agreement. I say to him: "I donít know if you really understand Ďoffusquerí". His expression made "That's right!" I say: "To offend you." Finally, Neil comes back on stage alone. I and the remainder of Crazy Horse play balloon outside. (The end.)

I listen to "Prairie Wind", the new Neil Young record. I find it beautiful in its melodiousness. In one song, there are some female backup vocals. Iím surprised about that because that hadnít been announced. The end of this song doesnít seem the very familiar Neilí stamp to myself because thereís some light effect of sound passage between the speakers. The whole leaves a certain dissatisfaction on me, because all the CD has the sound that is smothered. I write to Astrid Young my opinion about this CD. (The end)

[Note: I realize my dreams and my life to come mix and that throws people into confusion!!!]

Part I
I have an appointment to talk about European constitution. I appear in front of the secretary at the same time as two other men and one of them tells the woman sitting behind her Reception Office. They are well there about the same topic. Then the man adds: "But what are Neil Young laws about no-commercial DVDs when all his Archives will be released?". I am very surprised that Neil Young comes in the topic skipping the issue of our meeting about European constitution! The woman gives him an expected answer for this kind of question! At this time, somebody touches my shoulder. Itís a man who has his arms full. He pulls himself up from an awkward position in which he put himself touching me:
- Hello, I have got the number thirty-two in NYAS and I have a few present to give you on Neil Young behalf to thank you for your painted tee-shirts.
He has three gift-wrapped parcels one of which looks like a framework, another one could be a sculpture.  The last one having a cubic form (approximately 20*20 cm) ends up in my hands. At this time, a child grips me very strongly my leg. In his round eyes reflects also my thought: "Grip me! I must be in a dream!". But he grips me so strongly and during a long time that...

The end! (Note: This child pinches my leg so strongly and during a long time that... I awake. Iíve been sleeping for one hour. I am still well tired. And Iíve got a pain - such a strong grip - at the place where the boy gripped me in the dream.).

Part II
(I fall asleep at once and I have exactly again the same dream! The child isnít there gripping my leg but instead of which my telephone ringing awakes me. And this second dream ends exactly at the same point. And my sleep had a same length of time! Telephone is a blasted nuisance! I should disconnect it.).

[Note: My subconscious is only a pitiful being if receiving gifts is all it ever thinks about!]

A small theater, Crazy Horse is on stage. The show, which is great, ends. The audience loses patience after many minutes wait. Some thirty people joined the edge of the stage. As the material is always places from there, we plunge ourselves in the food that we brought. Lastly, Larry Cragg and his team surround the stage for the dismantling operation of material. Then, we become noisy ! Larry is surprised by our presence, and leaves the stage. We continue to bawl ! (I must be deaf when I sleep because that didnít awake me). We have our amazed eyes : Crazy Horse comes back on stage. Neil grasps his guitar and at this point in time he stiffens noticing us. Whatís going on ? Wouldn't Neil like to play because we are very few people ? He leaves his guitar and goes down from stage. Our small table gives him an appetite. Neil treat himself to some Breton pancakes and also a apple turnover that a girl cooked. Then Neil joins his favorite band and starts playing a song with a strange introduction since this one is made up of several starts that are easily identifiable. That starts with Hey Hey My My, then with Like A Hurricane. But the song is well Welfare Mothers.

Dream of yesterday afternoon : I am perhaps in Venice, that looks like a lot. "Streets" are crowded. I am close to Neil, Pegi, Astrid, and I think Larry is there too. Contrary to them, I wear a mask. Is this carnival time ? That doesnít reflect a good image of myself.

I open the case of new Neil Young CD. It is also an CD-DVD-Audio like "Greatest Hits". I glance the setlist. A title catch my attention : "I Can Break You".
The end.

Notes : Actually, there are some rumours : Neil playing for a new CD. In my dream, at first sight, that doesn't resemble with a title for Greendale II.
Last Tuesday, another dream : I open a door giving onto a corridor that I start to take. Under my steps, I am surprised reading the inscriptions made in the tiled floor : "Neil Young" and "Cinnamon Girl".

November 9, 2004

I played three of my playlets on stage, then I sat close to the audience to attend the following entertainment because I donít really want to miss that ! Well and how ! Itís electric Crazy Horse occupying the stage ! Neil and his friends are in great form. I say to my neighbor that I could well have played a fourth playlet but I held to play only three knowing who took up the stage after me, because I am, as the audience of the theater, impatient to listen to the announced band ! Neil says to us that he invited one of his friends to join him on stage to play All Along The Watchtower. Immediately I think to Bob Dylan. But no, itís not him who appears ! All the eyes of the theater are opened wide ! Itís Jimi ! Jimi Hendrix ! Jimi in the flesh ! Itís himself who leads Crazy Horse in hallucinogen version. The union of Neil with Jimi can only produce mirific sparks ! The song is finished, and the audience doesnít applaud still subjugated by the appearance of Jimi. And itís only when the next song starts that we leave our tetany. Itís Rockin' In The Free World ! As on the previous song, Neil turns more discreet than as usual and gives the beautiful share to his distinguished guest. I take advantage of my privilege and I go up on stage to watch better the Jimi playing. I stand between Neil and Jimi. I see well that Neil looks at Jimi in a very admiring way. This night, Neil leaves all the spotlights moving on this guitar heroe that Neil appreciates enormously.

Tonight : Neil's show - setlist

No Greendale show ! ! !

Neil w/Crazy Horse :
* Bravo (new song)

The stage is empty - Long wait.
Neil comes back. Larry brings a chair. Neil sits down. Larry brings a guitar to Neil.
On The Beach (acoustic guitar)
The stage is a bit far for me, I draw nearer to the stage but no so enough my hope.
Neil leaves us - Long wait.
Then, Neil w/Crazy Horse and with another guitarist in gueststar who is unknown for me play :
* Will The Circle Be Unbroken
Neil said to us that it's a homage. But I don't understand for who or what for.
Is anybody died tonight ? And what would explain this wait between the songs and this strange show.

The stage is empty - Long wait.
Neil w/Crazy Horse come back :
* Fuckin' Up
Neil is surprised because the other guitarist appears and invite himself on this song with an acoustic guitar. This one goes playing in the audience. He's close to me and wants to give me his guitar to play with it. I say to him that I don't play guitar. He says to me : "To see your music feeling, I would have believed". I answer him: "This music is in my body and I feel it a lot". He says to me : "Learn how to play the guitar." Then he asks me a question about the Neil's shows. I say to him about the Eurotour 2003 and this saying 2003 as the last year because we are well in 2004.
Now, the stage is empy - Long wait and ... it's the end of my dream.
The place seemed to be the Palais Des CongrŤs in Paris.

I am sorry. But it seems that there is no audio or video 'souvenirs' of this show. (maybe in the "Archives" ?)

Denis Between The Rusty Words (02-22-2004)

PS : 15 days ago, I was in the first row to a show of neil w/Crazy Horse Deluxe !!! ;)
But I awoke as soon as Astriiiiid and Pegi waved me !! ;)
It was just before Neil starts the show !!! ;)

Dream and reality

As Freud died and buried, we can allow ourselves to tell our dreams !

Then here is, Thursday I was authorized a littlí nap, I calmed down for 1h30 ... finally ... few time ago, "they" come to <accept > that it is possible that some people go in the paradoxical sleep at once that they fall asleep and thus go in the dream at the time of a short sleep. Freud never made dream of "two hours" in a 10  minutes nap  !!??!! The poor !!!

Well, ret us return in our Neil-neil since it is that about which it all is !!!Yes, and what does he does in my dream ? What can he do best !!! To play guitar !!! Here, it was acoustic and the show was in the open air at the end of the afternoon on a small place of village. Beautiful weather, all is well. Neil plays his standards sitting on a chair which is on the same level as the public, therefore no platform. And me, will you say to me ? I am in the crowd, we arenít numerous (a twenty) and we are strewn in front of him and not bound ready to throw ourselves on him. I see a guy who is a little in withdrawal and the back continuously turns to him. Nevertheless, I feel that he tests much pleasure to listen to Neil. I approach him and I say to him that the stage is behind him. Yes, I know but I love him so much that I canít imagine to cross his glance. You can be turned over, do not have any fear, I say to him, because Neil carries sunglasses (I pretended not, it is true). Letís go, and approach a little bit. We approach but he persists to show to Neil his back. Finally, he will decide to be facing Neil. A break comes in the show. A fireworks is envisaged. But starting is disturbed. The fireworks expert has some problems with the wicks and before he tries to solve them, the strollers approach and try to help him with the result that the expert is rather to obstruct by these people to achieve his task and he starts to be irritated. Neil which remained on his chair waiting the end of the interlude says : "Oui, il y a toujours des gens pour t'emmerder." (Yes, there are always people to annoy you). What a is not my surprise ! Neil speaking in French. I approach Neil which started to reading a newspaper at a table which was not far from him. I say to him : "How do you do ?" Neil answers me to be found out with tee-shirt in Winterlong : "On se connait ?" (Do we know each other ?)  I stammer : "Heu, no ..." Neil without really leaving the eyes of the newspaper sais, on the same tone : "Bon, alors ..." (Well, then ... ). I feel myself very uncomfortable ! Yes I really feel myself very uncomfortable and that awakes me !

Morality : When you live in the dream permanently, the dream is there to bring back you to the hard reality !!!

Slice of dream

I film on stage a Breton folk band.
Murmurs around me: "Who is this guy filming ? - If he is there, he must have an authorization." (Of course, I haven't it).
And I continue to film without being worried.
The finished show, I stand in bottom of the scene.
I put my video camera in its bag and I'm waiting ...

Technicians change the materials on stage.
CRAZY HORSE must play this night !
The stage is in the center of a large room.
I'm between the stage and the crowd.

Horse comes and starts a song.
I don't recognize the song.
A new song ? Neil sings.
But it is Ragged Glory one !
Very quiet Over & Over version.
Anyway, I can dance on it.

At the chorus, Neil lets Poncho sing it and goes on the left of the
stage and listens what it happens on stage.
It isn't OK. Poncho must sing false because the rhythm is too slow.
While looking at Poncho, Neil does his hand 1, 2, 3.
And Horse play again more nervous.

At the end of the song, the three guitarists go down of the stage and dance with me.
A marvellous ballet of peace and friendship.
The sound of the guitars (larsens) die on stage.
Neil goes up on stage and takes again his guitar.
No sound : electric problem.
Some little electric materials must be changed say the electricians.
Then I hear Cortez !
Does Neil replay ? "No !
It is the Zuma version" I say.
Neil is close to me drinking a hot coffee.
With a large smile, he says : "Zuma ... "

My ticket is valid for the new date given tomorrow but not in France.
Tomorrow I work and I am far from England.
... And I awake.

It is 02:00 AM, It's early for a Sunday.
I wake up and I lesson Ragged Glory.
Ah ! That's good ! ! ! ! ! !

I am Denis Between two dreams (November 10, 2002)

"our dreams went up in smoke" (Over & Over )
Does mean it it's a nightmare ? ;-)
