Greendale II : At the heart of my review
I took you to the limits of the comprehension.
"This
text is quite pretty and then ?", you could think this. Why
Greendale ? What is the connection with this story and even with
Neil ? None characters of Greendale is mentioned, nor no member
of Horse band ! ! ! !
It is a voluntary act ;-)), in order
to show the universal impact with the Greendale content ! ! ! Moreover,
which doesn’t contribute to comprehension, I juxtaposed the two
Greendale II movies (clip-movie + making of the film soundtrack).
The rule is (available for my original french text)
the first stanza is for the clip-movie : 2 lines
with 8 feet + 1 to 4 feet. And then the stanza from the same song
comes but telling the making of the soundtrack in lines with 8 feet.
The lines with eight feet are warm and the one with four feet
brings the necessary roundness to feel really well and is thus the
most adapted for the clip-movie because it is the principal subject
all the same. The two lines for the making of the soundtrack is
there in a secondary importance (?).
The root of the text (after the two first lines which correspond
to the making of soundtrack introduction because it doesn’t exist
an introduction for the clip-movie) rhymes in french language as follows : AAB CC DDB EE, etc . .

If you followed me well (and if my explanation is not clearly),
we have in the order : The introduction (soundtrack) / Leave The
Driving (film) / Leave The Driving (soundtrack) / Double E (film)
/ Double E (soundtrack) / Falling From Above (film) / Falling From
Above (soundtrack) / etc . . .
Here, now, my text explanation and I think it is a good thing
to have written that, I don’t know if I can be also precise about
my text in only three months for example, without at least seeing
again entirely the two films.

0. Introduction (soundtrack) : On the music of the Neil Young website, a continuous
tracking in : sunny weather, we enter in a shed, it’s very dark
there, there are wells of light which bring light inside, we cross
a "hall" and we see Neil and Ralph slumped in an armchair,
we continue going through the shed, we pass Billy and we arrive
at the studio itself, the sound engineer (is it well Tim Mulligan
?) checking the material so that Horse tells us the story of Greendale

1.a. Leave The Driving (film) : On the road, Jed gets
himself arrested by Carmichael who points his lamp in Jed’s face,
Jed doesn’t know what he does and it’s the big unexpected thing
which is happening, Jed shoots Carmichael, and end up in prison

1.b. Leave The Driving (soundtrack) : Neil, Billy and
Ralph, play this song, some known elements are around them (the
big mike from Rust Never Sleeps) but also some incredible ones (a
hand-saw, number plates), finally all things which can remember
the history of Neil and the Horse, the special effects come : a
part of the walls projects the clip but the Horse is in foreground

2.a. Double E (film) : Sun Green looks at the TV, in the
programm there is only ecological disasters, Sun is very concentrated
and interested, she takes notes :

2.b. Double E (soundtrack) : Neil sat on an amplifier,
plays with his electric guitar, and among the ecological disasters
showed on Sun Green TV, we see Neil sitted and playing this song
with his acoustic guitar, this extract is taken from the Dublin
DVD performed in Spring 2003 :

3.a. Falling From Above (film) : Meeting
between friends or unknown person : dice game in a bar gathering
a fireman, a painter (?), a girl wipes the beer on the moustache
of this man having the beret, elsewhere family Green gathering :
breakfast, thoughtful gestures, kisses, love & affection, some
real short moments in parenthesis :
Games, cares and attentions, and kisses

3.b. Falling From Above (sountrack) : The legend says
the Horse takes only one recording, well there it is not really
the case, the Horse starts the song then stops, and begins again,
and we see Neil with different clothes indicating the recording
lasted some time, therefore we see Neil playing with his guitar
and singing, singing without guitar, playing with his harmonica
without having guitar ! ! ! ! And it is the occurrence for all the
songs ! ! ! !

4.a. Carmichael (film) : Carmichael died, two girlfriends
discover he had a mistress, they decide to hide that to his widow,
to do an outward show is of utmost importance, only the amusing
and roundness souvenirs must remain in our memory :

In this clip, we see the shade of Carmichael passed in their bedroom
whereas his wife, restless, looks for the sleep. And I have writing
what follows one year ago in connection with this chapter (June
9, 2003 - Greendale_Paris 2003) : "But now, the present is
without your presence close to me. I can now only speak to the walls.
She want to rest and close slowly their bedroom door." Funny
this coincidence ! ! ! ! ! We're really on the same wavelength ! ! !

4.b. Carmichael (soundtrack) : In a moor, at the roadside,
a huge dominating TV set is disused there, the screen is broken,
two flashes and Neil appears on top of the TV set, sitted as Buddha
position, praying, an image appears on the shattered TV, it is the
Horse playing in the studio, Neil leans towards the screen, yes,
TV is only a good think to diffuse musical images from the Horse,
if not we must throw it away :

5.a. Bandit (film) : Earl Green (the Sun father) is in
a room in a motel, he "didn't find yet" his artistic way
(what they say), that’s the questions about his art, about himself,
about his existence, he looks at himself in the mirror seeking to
fathom who is this Earl Green, what is it written in the Big Book
about his life ! ! !
A mirror is not enough

5.b. Bandit (soundtrack) : At the end of the song, Neil
adresses Ralph, speaks to him about his playing way, to try differently,
Neil analyzes the play of Ralph compared to the other performances,
Ralph spends his time agreeing while listenning attentively about
all that Neil says :

6.a. Devil's Sidewalk (film) : The devil, in red shoes,
walks well in all the Greendale as Capitaine John Green says to
his two sailors, the devil as much as possible seeks to corrupt
this city, he has access to every places except the church :

The dreadful sower
6.b. Devil's Sidewalk (soundtrack) : The Horse chews chewing-gum,
Ralph walks in the studio, Neil starts the song, Ralph, very cool,
goes to the battery, catches the drumsticks and starts, this peace
and quiet is enough incredible :

7.a. Grandpa's Interview (film) : Susan Carol, reporter,
is venturesome, her heart is cold and she isn’t disturbed about
the Grandpa turmoil facing up to the attack of the media wanting
his feeling on the fact that cousin Jed is a murderer, nor when
Grandpa passes away, a real professional, work comes before everything,
we don’t attend the last breath of Grandpa, some images of seashore
indicates to us decency, meditation to take up in this circumstance

7.b. Grandpa's Interview (soundtrack) : At the end of
the song, the Horse remains static, motionless, fixed, listening
to the silence, thinking, analyzing what has just occurred, about
the performance which he played, for undoubtedly tending towards
the perfection :

8.a. Bringin' Down Dinner (film) : By a misty weather,
Grandma comes at the Double E where she’ll hear the death of her
husband, she drives her old white car her own way, that is in very
slowly way, later the burial of Grandpa gets ready with a full of
imagery with a great reserve (it isn’t like in a bad lachrymal movie)
with a shot on cars in parking in front of the house, the car of
Grandma is there and also a line of black collector’s Cadillacs
(Neil got all (?) his cars out his garage) :
Wan headlights gently
Slip close to old engines

ultramarine black colour
8.b. Bringin' Down Dinner (soundtrack) : Neil goes to
the organ, the clip is showing in his music rest, it’s very dark
in the studio, it is bathed with an orange light, when the moment
of the burial of Grandpa comes (winter of the life), the light of
the studio goes in blue colour :

9.a. Sun Green (film) : Sun exposes herself to the world,
to the media with her act to besiege the eagle of Power Co, Sun
says everything what isn’t necessary to say in public, is the truth
sometimes best left unsaid ?, by that the nuisances come to voluntarily
harm Sun, her cat is killed, drug are put in her room, but she will
be discharged all the same :

9.b. Sun Green (soundtrack) : The Neil open
shirt shows his shoulder during the well-known "Neil dance"
that Neil always does when he plays with his guitar, the recordings
with Neil and his megaphone are made separately, Neil has the megaphone
in his hand, the song is finished and Neil has fun to make odd noises
with his mike and his megaphone, Neil ends up bursting out laughing

10.a. Be The Rain (film) : Sun Green and Earth Brown go
to Alaska saving the planet, Sun goes towards the ocean, dips her
feet into, it is undoubtedly her element, as for Earth, half naked,
he flies by the mountain, behaving like a primitive being, an animal,
a bear (?), I have the feeling that his mission as saviour of the
planet got him crazy :

10.b. Be The Rain (soundtrack) : For this energetic final,
everyone puts all their heart in voices, the recordings always are
made separately, the Horse and/or the four Mountainettes gather
round one/many mikes in a circle, this cordial and alive final is
only worthy of a genius :
